Medieval Dynasty Save Sharing - Continue the Village Without the Host
Where is the Medieval Dynasty save file, and how do you share it so another player can host? Two files travel together - miss one and the save won't show up.
Medieval Dynasty co-op puts a whole village in one person’s hands - literally. The settlement, the fields, the villagers you recruited and the seasons you have survived all live on the host’s machine, and when that person is busy, so is the village.
Handing it over is straightforward once you know which files matter. The catch is that there are two of them, and copying only the obvious one is how people conclude their save has been lost.
Where Is the Medieval Dynasty Save File?
On Windows:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Medieval_Dynasty\Saved\SaveGames\
Paste that into File Explorer’s address bar. AppData is hidden by default, so clicking your way there means turning on hidden folders first.
The Two Files That Must Travel Together
Each save is a pair:
<SaveName>.sav- the world itself: your village, buildings, fields, villagers, the calendar<SaveName>_Label.sav- the metadata the load menu reads. Note the capital L.
Copy the .sav and leave the _Label.sav behind, and the save simply does not appear in the load menu. Nothing is corrupted and nothing is lost - the world file is sitting right there - but the game has no label to list it under, so it looks like the transfer failed.
Take both, every time.
What Not to Copy
Three things in that folder belong to the machine they are on, not to the save:
Settings\MedievalDynastySettings.sav- per-player settingsMutedPlayers\MedievalDynastyMutedPlayers.sav- per-player mute liststeam_autocloud.vdf- Steam Cloud’s own bookkeeping
Copying these over someone else’s just overwrites their preferences with yours.
How to Share a Medieval Dynasty Save Manually
- Old host: save in game, quit to the main menu, then fully close Medieval Dynasty. Copying a save while the game still has it open can truncate it.
- Paste
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Medieval_Dynasty\Saved\SaveGames\into your file browser. - Find your pair -
<SaveName>.savand<SaveName>_Label.sav. Not sure which? Sort by Date modified and take the newest pair. - Select both (click one, Ctrl+click the other), right-click, Send to -> Compressed (zipped) folder.
- Send the zip to the new host.
- New host: extract both files directly into their own
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Medieval_Dynasty\Saved\SaveGames\folder, so they sit next to each other - not inside an extra folder the zip created. - New host: launch Medieval Dynasty. The save appears in the load list. Load it and invite the group - whoever loads it is the host.
Then back and forth, every session, forever. Which is where it starts to fall over.
How SaveSync Handles It
SaveSync syncs the pair automatically across everyone in your group, so nobody is zipping files at midnight and nobody hosts from a save that is three sessions stale.
- Click Medieval Dynasty in the list on the left to open its save management page.
- Click “+ New Save” (top right).
- Select your save from the dialog and click “Create Save”.
- Wait for the green checkmark - that is the sync completing.
- Click the share icon on your save, search your friend’s Steam username, and click “Share”.
- They click “Activate”, and from then on they can host it and the save syncs automatically.
SaveSync also keeps a full save history, so you can see who uploaded what and when, and roll back if a session goes badly.
Keep the Village Running
A settlement built across a dozen in-game years should not go quiet because one person has a busy fortnight. Take both files, mind the capital L, and hosting can sit with whoever is actually free.
