SaveSync now runs on Linux. The beta is live, and you can start sharing and syncing your co-op game saves on your Linux desktop or laptop today.

If you have been waiting for Linux support, here is everything you need to know about the beta.

What Works in the Beta

The core functionality is fully operational on Linux:

  • Sync and share co-op saves with your group, including players on Windows
  • Create and join sync groups with your friends via Steam
  • Pull the latest save and host directly from your Linux machine
  • Cross-platform groups work seamlessly between Linux and Windows players
  • All supported games that run on Linux natively or through Proton

If your group has been using SaveSync on Windows, adding a Linux player works exactly how you would expect. Install SaveSync, join the same sync group, pull the save, and host.

How to Join the Beta

  1. Join our Discord server
  2. Grab the beta tester role from Channels & Roles
  3. Follow the setup instructions in the beta testers channel
  4. Install SaveSync on your Linux machine
  5. Start syncing and let us know how it goes

The setup takes a few minutes. The beta channel has step-by-step instructions.

Supported Distros

SaveSync’s Linux beta works on distributions that support Steam:

  • Ubuntu 22.04 and newer
  • Fedora 38 and newer
  • Arch Linux and Manjaro
  • Pop!_OS
  • Linux Mint
  • Any distro that runs Steam and Proton

If your distro runs Steam, it should run SaveSync.

Supported Games on Linux

Most of the games SaveSync supports run well on Linux through Proton. Here are some of the popular ones:

A few games are still having their Linux save paths mapped and will be added in upcoming beta updates.

No More Hunting for Proton Save Paths

One of the biggest headaches for Linux co-op players is finding where Proton stores game saves. Paths like this are not exactly user-friendly:

~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/[AppID]/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/...

SaveSync knows where each game stores its saves on Linux, whether the game runs natively or through Proton. You never have to touch the filesystem manually. Sync and pull saves with a click.

Cross-Platform Groups Just Work

Your co-op group does not need to be on the same platform. SaveSync handles the differences between Windows and Linux save paths automatically:

  • You play on Linux, your friend plays on Windows — same sync group, same save
  • Switch between your Linux desktop and a Windows laptop — your saves follow you
  • Mixed groups of Linux, Windows, and Steam Deck players all share the same save seamlessly

The save lands in the right directory on every platform without anyone thinking about it.

What We Are Still Working On

The beta is functional but not finished:

  • Minecraft (all launchers), Vintage Story, and Hytale are still having their Linux save paths mapped
  • LAN Sync is not functional on Linux yet (cloud sync works normally)
  • Performance optimization is ongoing

We are actively collecting feedback from beta testers to prioritize fixes and new features.

Help Us Test

The beta exists because of community requests. Help us get it to a stable release:

  • Try the beta with a test save first before using your main worlds
  • Report issues through Discord or the Steam community hub
  • Tell us which games you play on Linux so we can prioritize save path support

Get Started

The beta is open to everyone. All you need is a Linux machine with Steam installed.

  1. Get SaveSync on Steam
  2. Join our Discord for beta access and setup help
  3. Start sharing saves with your group

Linux gaming has come a long way. Your co-op saves should keep up. Try the beta and let us know what you think.
