Dimraeth hit Steam Early Access on 15 September 2026, and Mudtek built it for groups: a handcrafted pixel-art Mirkea with Souls-lite combat, crafting, base building and seamless drop-in/drop-out co-op for up to eight players.

Drop-in co-op only helps while somebody is hosting. The world lives on one person’s PC, so the stronghold you spent a weekend building is available exactly as often as that person is online. This guide covers where the world file actually is, the two files that will undo a handover if you ignore them, and how to move a world to a new host cleanly.

Where Is the Dimraeth Save File Located?

On Windows, paste this into File Explorer’s address bar or the Win+R Run box:

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Mudtek\Dimraeth\Worlds

AppData is hidden by default, so browsing to C:\Users\<YourName>\ will not show it. The path above opens regardless.

Inside, each world is a single file named <world_name>.jrwf. There is no per-world folder and no slot numbering to decode - the file you are looking at is the entire save, and its name is the world name you typed when you created it. Three worlds on the go means three .jrwf files you can tell apart at a glance.

How Do You Save in Dimraeth?

There is no manual save button. The world writes itself to the .jrwf as you play, so the file on disk is roughly current at any moment.

One habit matters: quit through the menu. Force-closing or alt-F4ing mid-session risks the last stretch of play never reaching the file - and if you copy that .jrwf to a new host straight afterwards, you have handed them a world missing your most recent hour.

Close Dimraeth fully on both machines before any file moves.

Which Travels: the World or Your Hero?

This is worth getting right before you copy anything, because Dimraeth splits your progress in two.

WhatWhere it livesDoes it travel?
The world - story progress, recruited allies, your stronghold and its buildingsThe .jrwf fileYes
Your hero - level, equipment, inventory, spellsWith you, into whichever world you joinNo

Mudtek designed this deliberately: your hero carries their build between worlds, while everything the group built stays bound to the world. So when a friend takes over hosting, they need your world file and nothing else. They bring their own hero to it, exactly as they would if you were hosting.

The Backup Files That Undo Your Transfer

This is the one that costs groups an evening.

Dimraeth keeps the two previous versions of every world beside it:

Mirkea Run.jrwf
Mirkea Run.jrwf.bak1
Mirkea Run.jrwf.bak2

When a world will not load, the game automatically falls back to a backup. That is a good safety net on your own machine and a trap during a handover: if the new host already has .bak1 and .bak2 sitting there from their own copy of that world, and your freshly pasted .jrwf hiccups on first load, the game loads their stale backup instead. You get a world from several sessions ago and no error telling you why.

Delete both backups alongside the world you are replacing, every single time. Not once - every transfer.

Watch the World Name

The file name is the world name. If the receiving player already has a world called the same thing, pasting yours overwrites theirs with no warning.

If either side wants to keep both, rename one before the file moves.

Does Dimraeth Have Dedicated Servers?

Not in Early Access. Steam lists online co-op and nothing else - there is no server tool shipped with the game, no rental option, and no way to keep Mirkea running when nobody is at the keyboard.

That leaves player-hosted co-op as the only option: one person hosts, the world runs on their PC, and the session ends when they log off. For a group of eight that plays around work and time zones, the fix is not a server you cannot rent - it is making sure the world is on more than one machine.

If you are weighing the trade-off generally, see SaveSync vs dedicated servers and co-op games with dedicated servers.

How to Move a Dimraeth World Manually

  1. Quit to the main menu and close Dimraeth fully on both machines.
  2. Open %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Mudtek\Dimraeth\Worlds.
  3. Copy the <world_name>.jrwf for the world you are handing over.
  4. Send it across - Discord, USB, cloud drive, whatever works.
  5. New host: check for <world_name>.jrwf.bak1 and <world_name>.jrwf.bak2 in their own Worlds folder and delete both.
  6. New host: paste the .jrwf into Worlds, launch Dimraeth, and load the world.
  7. Everyone joins with their own hero, and play continues.

Then reverse it after the session. And again the next night. That repetition is what actually breaks down - somebody forgets, somebody hosts from Tuesday’s copy, and the group loses a week of Mirkea.

How to Share a Dimraeth World With SaveSync

SaveSync keeps the current world on every PC in the group and clears stale backups automatically, so the .bak1/.bak2 problem above cannot happen.

  1. Open SaveSync and click Dimraeth in the list on the left. You land on its save management page.
  2. Click + New Save in the top right.
  3. Pick your world from the dialog of available worlds, then click Create Save.
  4. Wait for the sync to finish - a green checkmark.
  5. Click the share icon on the save, search for your friend’s Steam username, and click Share.
  6. They see it in their own game list, marked as shared by you, and click Activate.

From then on the world syncs automatically after each session, and whoever activated it can host next. SaveSync also keeps a full history of every sync - who uploaded it and when - so a bad overwrite is a rollback rather than a loss.

Mirkea, Whenever the Group Is Free

Early Access means the world is going to keep growing for the next year and a half, and a stronghold eight people built should not be locked behind one person’s calendar. Quit cleanly, move the .jrwf, clear the backups on the far side - and hosting sits with whoever is around that night.
