Raid night, everyone is free, and the one person whose PC has the world is asleep, at work, or just not playing. The base, the Runite gear, the progress toward Kuldra - all of it sits in a folder on a machine nobody else can reach.

This is the default state of RuneScape: Dragonwilds co-op, and it did not change at the 1.0 launch. Here is how to get playing tonight, and how to make sure it stops being a blocker.

Why the World Gets Stuck on One PC

A normal Dragonwilds co-op world is player-hosted. Whoever starts the session is the machine running the world, and everyone else connects to them for as long as they stay online. Up to four players in a player-hosted world; the world itself is a single .sav file sitting in:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\RSDragonwilds\Saved\SaveGames

No host, no session. The dedicated server tool added in the 0.11 update sidesteps this, but it means running a machine around the clock - and it is PC only, so it is no help to a group on consoles.

Option 1: Ask the Host to Send the World File

Works when the host is contactable, just not playing tonight.

  1. They quit Dragonwilds through the menu, not alt-F4, so the last session is written to disk.
  2. They open %LOCALAPPDATA%\RSDragonwilds\Saved\SaveGames and find the .sav named after your world.
  3. They send it over - zip it first, chat apps handle a zip more reliably than a loose file.
  4. You close Dragonwilds, drop the .sav into that same folder on your PC, and relaunch.
  5. You host, and the world appears in your list under its own name.

Two things to know before you do it:

  • Your character does not come with it. Characters live in SaveCharacters and stay on their own PCs. Everyone brings their own into the world - that is correct behaviour, not a failed transfer.
  • Grab the .sav.backup too if you want a fallback. It is the game’s rolling backup of that world.

Option 2: Host From a Copy You Already Have

If the group set up sharing in advance, there is nothing to do tonight - the current world is already on your machine.

SaveSync syncs the Dragonwilds world to every PC player in the group after each session. When the usual host is offline, you open the game and host from your own copy, on the current state of the world.

Already set up? Just launch. If not, the prevention section below is the fix.

Option 3: Roll Back a Bad Session

A manual copy gives you exactly one version - the one you pasted. Overwrite a .sav with an older one and the newer world is gone, and the .sav.backup beside it is the game’s own rolling backup, not a history you can pick from.

SaveSync keeps every synced version tagged with who uploaded it and when. A griefed base or a mistaken overwrite becomes a restore instead of a loss.

Option 4: Start a New World

If nobody has a usable copy and the host is genuinely unreachable, the world is gone. Start fresh - and set up sharing on the new world in the first session, before the next scheduling gap costs you another one.

Stop This Happening Again

The underlying problem is not the host. It is that the world only exists in one place.

  1. Every PC player who might host installs SaveSync from Steam.
  2. Whoever has the current world opens SaveSync, clicks RuneScape: Dragonwilds in the list on the left, then + New Save.
  3. They select the world, click Create Save, and wait for the green checkmark.
  4. They click the share icon, search each friend’s Steam username, and click Share.
  5. Each friend clicks Activate on the shared save.

After that the world syncs automatically when a session ends, and any of them can host the next one.

If your group is mixed PC and console after the 1.0 launch, keep at least one PC player in the rotation - the console versions have no cross-save and no copyable save folder, so PC is where the world stays portable.

Don’t Let One Calendar Own Gielinor

A missing host is the most common reason a co-op run quietly dies, and Dragonwilds at 1.0 is too big to lose to a scheduling gap.

SaveSync on Steam - one purchase, covering Dragonwilds and dozens of other co-op games on the same install.
