Bellwright Save Sharing - Let Any Player Host the Settlement
Where does Bellwright store its save files, and how do you share one so a friend can host? The Steam ID folder, the save slots, and what to copy.
Bellwright has you rebuilding a medieval settlement from a handful of villagers into a working rebellion - recruiting, assigning jobs, pushing out into new territory. It is a long game, and in co-op all of it lives on whoever is hosting.
Which means one person’s schedule decides when anybody plays. Here is where the save actually sits and how to hand it over.
Where Are Bellwright’s Save Files?
On Windows:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Bellwright\Saved\SaveGames\
Inside, you will find a folder named with your Steam ID - a long string of digits. Open that one. Bellwright files each player’s saves under their own Steam ID, which matters when the save moves to another machine.
What Is in There
You will see .sav files named after your character or save name, with a suffix for each slot. A save called nullpointer gives you files like:
nullpointer_0- the manual save slotnullpointer_auto- the autosavenullpointer_quick- the quicksave
Alongside them sits a .sav_backup0 file, which is Bellwright’s own rolling backup.
When handing a save over, take every file that starts with that name rather than trying to pick the single right slot. The backup is optional, but copying it gives the new host something to fall back on if the main file turns out to be damaged.
The Steam ID Folder Is the Easy Mistake
This is the step that catches people. Your saves live under your Steam ID folder. The new host’s saves live under theirs.
So the files do not go into a folder named with your Steam ID on their machine - they go into the folder named with their Steam ID. Recreating your ID folder on their PC just produces a folder Bellwright never reads.
How to Share a Bellwright Save Manually
- Close Bellwright on the current host’s machine so nothing is mid-write.
- Paste
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Bellwright\Saved\SaveGames\into your file browser. - Open the folder named with your Steam ID.
- Pick the character or save name you want to hand over and select every file starting with that name. Add the
.sav_backup0if you want the fallback. - Zip them and send the zip to the new host.
- New host: unzip into the same path on their PC, inside their own Steam ID folder.
- They launch Bellwright, load the save, and host. Everyone else joins them.
Repeat in the other direction next session, and the one after that.
How SaveSync Handles It
SaveSync does that handover automatically - right files, right Steam ID folder, every session - so the settlement is current on every PC in the group.
- Click Bellwright in the list on the left to open its save management page.
- Click “+ New Save” (top right).
- Select your save from the dialog and click “Create Save”.
- Wait for the green checkmark.
- Click the share icon, search your friend’s Steam username, click “Share”.
- They click “Activate” - after that they can host it and the save syncs automatically.
There is a full save history too, so you can see who uploaded what and when, and revert if a session goes wrong.
Keep the Rebellion Moving
Villagers you spent hours recruiting should not be unreachable because one person is away. Take every file with the save’s name, mind whose Steam ID folder you are in, and anyone can host.
